Standaard trekkers zijn de meest gebruikte trekkende eenheden in de transportwereld. Vind standaard trekkers van Volvo, MAN, DAF, Scania, Renault, Iveco en Mercedes Benz met of zonder autolaadkraan.

Standaard trekkers

Een trekker is een type vrachtwagen die opleggers kan trekken. Het voertuig is voorzien van een koppelschotel die zich op het chassis van de trekker bevindt. Een oplegger is voorzien van een kingpin die op de koppelschotel gekoppeld kan worden. Groot voordeel hiervan is dat een lading gemakkelijk ontkoppeld worden na transport en een andere oplegger direct weer gekoppeld kan worden.

Een trekker is verkrijgbaar in talloze uitvoeringen. Denk hierbij aan het aantal assen, de emissieklasse, brandstof type en type cabine. Zo zijn trekkers voor nationaal transport vaak uitgerust met een dagcabine. Trekkers met een slaapcabine of globetrotter worden doorgaans ingezet voor internationaal transport.

Wet- en regelgeving milieu

Door steeds strengere milieueisen, die per land en zelfs per stad kunnen afwijken, is het aan te raden om te kijken naar trekkers die uitgerust zijn met een AdBlue tank. De vloeistof uit deze tank reduceert de emissie uitstoot waardoor dieselvoertuigen schoner rijden.

Tol/mautplicht in Duitsland

In Duitsland wordt er een scheiding gemaakt tussen trekkers vanaf 7.500 kg GVW. Dit heeft alles te maken met de “mautplicht” (tol) die dan gaat gelden op snelwegen en provinciale wegen.

Standaard en standaard

De standaard trekkersin Europa hebben de cabine boven de motor en zijn plat. De Amerikanen en Engelse noemen het ook wel een Cab over Engine (cabine boven motor)of sheer face (plat gezicht). Wat zijstandaard trekkers noemen (conventional cab) zijn juist de zogenaamdetorpedo trekkers. Een trekker met een neus dus.
