Did any Separatists survive? ›

A handful of Separatist survivors fled into the Kreetan Narrows after the defeat and continued a low-level resistance, leading to the Empire's eventual annexation of the region and the northern territories of Hutt Space.

The idea of the separatists being evil was caused by corporate greed exploited by Palpatine, who wanted to escalate the conflict for his own gain. He managed to get the CIS hijacked by the most unscrupulous, greedy, selfish scumbags he could find. This became the separatist council that viewers are more used to seeing.

Separatist worlds believed that the Republic's corruption left it damaged beyond repair and that a new government was needed. In truth, the Separatists were led by both the Sith and a cabal of the galaxy's most unethical corporations, making the CIS far more corrupt than the Republic.

The Separatists Could Never Win the Clone Wars

However, it was a losing battle from the start, as the Republic outnumbered the Separatists' worlds by a huge amount. And by the time of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, they were almost at their end.

While the various federations and guilds that held power under the CIS were crushed at that moment, many of the corporations would survive into the new era: while the Trade Federation and Techno Union were nationalized by the Empire, the Corporate Alliance, Banking Clan, and Commerce Guild would remain active.

What's more, most Separatists were not Sith masterminds or droid cyborgs but just average people who wanted a better life. And they didn't use a slave army. When the Republic fell and was transformed into an Empire, the rebels became the heroes. But they were worth championing long before that.

The Separatists believed they should seek out other believers and gather together as they saw fit. They believed the Church of England retained too much of the Catholic Church's ceremonies and liturgy, and they should instead worship as they saw fit.

Though a significant amount of time after the First and Second Battles on Ryloth, the Separatists still committed war crimes on the planet, specifically regarding a set of civilians they had taken hostage in one of their mountain bases.

Exploiting the anger much of the galaxy held towards the Republic, the Sith began the Separatist Crisis as a step towards gaining power.

The Confederacy won many battles in the ensuing war but was dissolved when they were betrayed by Sidious, who had the Separatist Council leaders massacred by his apprentice Darth Vader on Mustafar, allowing Sidious to reform the Republic into the Galactic Empire.

For example, the Separatist leaders Nute Gunray, Wat Tambor, and Poge were killed by the Empire, while others were imprisoned.
