Their problem is that their bottom teams are putrid. I bet they surpass the Big 12 and Pac 12 soon though.

Not only did they have an impressive lineup last year (bsu, sdsu, unr, afa, and fresnot st), but this year they add SJSU (11-2) and USU (11-2). SJSU losses were against USU and a 3 point loss at stanford. USU losses came @ BYU and @ Wisconsin by a total of 5 points.

I just don't think you have a lot of knowledge about these western teams. We have played a bunch of them, and there are some very solid football programs in the MWC. Besides Boise, Fresno and Nevada have freguently been ranked when we have played them, and Utah State and San Jose were ranked last year. It is hard to compare the AAC and MWC because some of the teams in the AAC have been AQ. This skews any real comparison between the two. Once the former AQs in the AAC feel the effects of non P5 membership in a few years, I think the MWC will consistently outperform the AAC, as well as the other Go5 conferences.

We'll see what the future holds, but for right now, the American is set up to receive far greater media exposure nationwide than the Mountain. I think that will have an impact on recruiting, year-by-year.

But I agree it (or something very close to it) probably will happen. The affected schools might as well make the best of it. If the Independents want on the list they can go join a conference. Also, I don't think there is a big gap between #6 through #8. Not a knock on the Belt or MAC. I just think the gap is bigger between them and the other G5s.
