Obituary for Laurie Walton Crowder

In Loving Memory:Obituaries July 21, 2024 - Smokey Barn News (5)Laurie Walton Crowder, age 77, passed away Monday, July 22, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Mary Walton; husband, Robert Boyce Crowder; and brothers, Judge Jim Walton and Ron Walton.

She is survived by her son, Frank Lansing Crowder and his wife Ashley; sister-in-law, Janice Walton; along with several nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Ms. Laurie was a member of North Boulevard Church of Christ West and served in the Luke Ladies group. She had a master’s degree in education and dedicated over 30 years to Murfreesboro City Schools. Though she retired from administration and human resources, her true passion was in special education. Laurie was the social butterfly of the family. She was outgoing, vibrant, crafty, and had the best humor. She also enjoyed her coffee quiet time in morning where she got to birdwatch with her beloved four-legged companion, Toby.

His remains will be cremated, and no services are scheduled at this time.

Lonnie was born May 11, 1944, in Dickson. He was a graduate of Springfield High School Class of 1962, and was a retired truck driver. Lonnie enjoyed fishing and working in his yard. He was preceded in death by his father: Clayton Batey, by his mother: Christine Pardue Shelton, and by his daughter: Kimberly Edins.

In Loving Memory:Obituaries July 21, 2024 - Smokey Barn News (15)Dixie R. Morgan, 88, of Greenbrier, passed from this life on Monday July 15, 2024 at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday July 20th at 11:00 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Brother Rob Caton officiating. Interment was at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday July 20th in the Roark Cemetery in Lafayette, with her nephews serving as pallbearers. The family received friends on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Morgan was born March 24, 1936, in Red Boiling Springs, to the late Ozie and Ruby Coons McCarter. She was a retired customer service representative with American General Insurance, and was a member of Robertson County Church of Christ. Mrs. Morgan loved crocheting and she loved all her nieces and nephews. She was a very kind, sweet, and humble person.

Obituary for Mary Ellen Neal

In Loving Memory:Obituaries July 21, 2024 - Smokey Barn News (20)Mary Ellen Bracey Neal, 82, of Greenbrier, passed from this life on Sunday July 14, 2024, at Springfield Heights Assisted Living.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday July 18th at 12 noon in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Taylor Kibler and Reverend Chris Warren officiating. Interment followed in the Elmwood Cemetery with Tim Harris officiating. Pallbearers were Sonny Neal, Max Hodge, Jake Hodge, Caleb Hood, Brett Pyles, and Bob Adcox. Honorary pallbearers were the Seeker’s Sunday Class at Mt. Sharon Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The family received friends on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mary Ellen was born August 30, 1941, in Robertson County, to the late Phineas Lurton and Louise Anthony Bracey. She was a graduate of Coopertown High School Class of 1959, was a retired bookkeeper with the Old Hickory Credit Union, was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at North Crest Medical Center and was a member of Mt. Sharon Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mary Ellen enjoyed cooking, her flowers, listening to and singing gospel music, and traveling. She was always one to put others first and she loved her family, especially her grand and great grandchildren.

Barbara Jean (Major)(Pilkay) Atkins, born March 4, 1932, age 92 departed her earthly existence to reside in her heavenly home on July 19, 2024. She will join those who preceded her in death. Barbara will join her parents, Joe Arthur Major, Sr. and Anna Katherine (Frazier) Major; brother, Joe Arthur Major Jr. sister, Nancy (Major) Penery; and husbands, George A. Pilkay and Jessie L. Atkins; daughter-in-law Judy Pilkay, son-in-law Larry Griggs and granddaughter, Lisa Loshbough.

She is survived by sister Peggy Boling; her children Robert Pilkay, Shelia Carlen (Robert), Kathy Bozarth (Lyle), Peggy Griggs, Sam Pilkay (Karen), Laura Love (Michael). Blessed with 10 grandchildren; Kenneth McEwen, Jennifer Ray, Jessica Belt, Megan Selby, Nicole Herndon, George A. Lucian Bozarth, Patrick Griggs, Michael Love and Robert Love. She has 10 great grandchildren, Savanah Gerlach, and Patrick McEwen, Everett Selby, Allison Herndon, Anna Herndon, Jack Alan Lucian Bozarth, Jacob Love, Charlotte Love, Wade Mason and Austin Ray.

Pixie Story, whose life journey began on September 23, 1959, peacefully passed away on July 12, 2024, has left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate to know her. Pixie dedicated an impressive 33 years to Opryland/Gaylord, where her passion and dedication shone brightly in all she did.

Described as bubbly, kind, easy-going, humble, brilliant, and loving, Pixie’s warm spirit and genuine nature endeared her to everyone she met. Her captivating personality brightened the lives of those around her and left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with her.

Pixie found solace and joy in gardening—a passion that brought her peace and happiness. Her green thumb not only nurtured beautiful blooms but also symbolized the care and love she showered upon her surroundings.

Pixie will be deeply missed by her surviving family and friends, including her beloved daughter Megan Daniel Brown; devoted sisters Robyn (Terry) Bain and Ree Moses.

Pixie’s cherished grandchildren, Benjamin Lewis, Gabrial Lewis, and James Ray Thornhill; to whom she was affectionately known as “Nana”, were her pride and joy.

She is now reunited with her parents, James Franklin Story and Ruth Joyce Story, in a place of eternal peace.

Pixie was a member of Ridgetop Seventh Day Adventist Church for 21 years.

In Loving Memory:Obituaries July 21, 2024 - Smokey Barn News (35)Charles Raymond Davis “Coach Chuck”, age 78 of White House went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, July 18, 2024 at his home, surrounded by family and friends. He was born October 3, 1945 in Nashville, TN to Norman W. & Frances Crotzer Davis, Sr. He worked as a teacher and coach for White House High School and was retired after 33 years of service. During those years, he coached football, basketball and girls’ softball, with girls’ softball being his love. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a member of White House Church of Christ, where he served as an elder and song leader. He enjoyed annual trips to the beach with Nikki, John, Carli and Casey, watching his grandchildren playing sports and growing up and traveling, especially with his dearest friends, Norman and Debbie Shelton. After his retirement, he loved spending free time with his father, having lunch and just spending quality Dad and Son time together.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Frances Davis; brother, Norman W. Davis, Jr.. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Diane Davis; daughter, Stephanie “Nikki” (John) Frost, both of White House, TN; father, Norman W. Davis, Sr., Nashville, TN; sisters, Donna Davis and Karen Tallent, both of Nashville, TN and Sherry (Ron) Read, Hendersonville, TN; 2 grandchildren, Carli Frost and Casey Frost, White House, TN.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 3 o’clock pm, Friday, July 26th, at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View with Rev. Larry Peters officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday beginning at 1:00PM until the hour of service at 3:00PM.

Mrs. Windeknecht was born on December 25, 1933 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to the late Clarence & Jessie Bishop. She enjoyed being with her family & friends, woodcarving, basket weaving, camping, hiking, reading, traveling, and her pets. She also loved her church family at Grace Lutheran Church in Clarksville where she was a member.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Windeknecht; brothers, Dorwin & Lonial Bishop; sister, Vivian Lang; and daughter-in-law, Pamela Lynn Windeknecht.

Her sons survive her, Chris (Anita) Windeknecht of Pleasant View, Tn, and Todd (Mary) Windeknecht of Blue Grass, Iowa; daughter, Tereasa K. Obituary for Dr. Huba Nagy

In Loving Memory:Obituaries July 21, 2024 - Smokey Barn News (49)Huba Nagy, aged 84, passed away on July 16, 2024, in Brentwood, TN. Born on August 5, 1939, in Budapest, Hungary, Huba lived a life marked by resilience, joy, and service. He escaped Hungary during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and subsequently lived in the United Kingdom and Canada before settling in Tennessee in 1978. He moved to Franklin in 1984, where he spent the remainder of his life.

A graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada, Huba dedicated his career to medicine, helping countless people as a physician. Despite facing personal challenges with a disability, he never let it define him or dampen his spirit. Huba was known for his fun-loving nature, often seen smiling and laughing, and he had a profound sense of adventure and duty.

Huba married Lois Clarke in 1972, and the couple raised two sons, Timothy and Philip. Huba is survived by his wife, sons, sister Sophie, brother Jenci, and grandchildren Peter, Matthew, and Anna. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jenő and Ida Nagy. He was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Franklin, TN, where he also volunteered his time generously.

Beyond his professional and spiritual commitments, Huba was deeply involved in his community. He was an active member of the Rotary and volunteered many years at the Franklin Rodeo, demonstrating his commitment to service and community engagement.

Mr. York won first place at the state fair with one of his beautiful handmade quilts. He also loved working on cars.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alvin York; sister, Geneva Gammon. He is survived by his loving wife, Hazel York; son, Rodney (Ramona) York; two grandchildren, Adam (Lacy) York and Jesica Hope York; five great-grandchildren, Hadlee, Hayes, Harlow, Scout and Wilder all of White House, TN.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o’clock pm, Monday, July 22nd, at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View with Bro. Randy Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in EverRest of Cheatham with family & friends serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday beginning at 11:00AM until the hour of service at 2:00PM.

Mr. Watts was born on August 2, 1945, in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Howard, Sr. & Alice Reed Watts. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Vietnam War. He worked for the Methodist Publishing House and later retired after 20 years from Athens Paper Company. After retiring, he continued to visit his son at the print shop because he loved the smell of paper. He loved golfing and visiting Savannah, Tennessee. Mr. Watts was a Christian and was very patriotic.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Inman Watts; and brother, Jarrett Watts.

Mrs. Holman was born January 1, 1961 in Ashland City, TN to the late Ira Odell Knight, Sr. and Onie Louise Griggs Knight. She was a Title Researcher in Real Estate for many years.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holman was preceded in death by her husband, Preston Holman; and a brother, Ira Odell Knight, Jr.
